The school board voted to change 44 school names that it alleged were racist but later reversed the decision after threats of legal action. Separately, the city of San Francisco took the unprecedented move of suing the district to push it to reopen. Board member Alison Collins sued the district after she was stripped of the vice presidency in reaction to her tweets that were critical of Asian Americans, in a case that she dropped last month. The opponents allege the board also violated its own policies and the right to due process.
